After acquiring an LL.B. from The Tel Aviv University, Ayelet Harpaz studied singing at the Rubin Music Academy in Tel Aviv and was also involved in experimental dance-theatre and film productions.
In 1996 she moved to The Netherlands, where she studied singing in the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and later with Marjanne Kweksilber.
She performs as a solist and as a member of various ensembles, where she dedicates herself to the development of contemporary vocal repertoire, such as the theatre pieces she created with Netochka Nezvanova, which aimed at creating a synthesis of composed and improvised music, concentrating on live voice and image processing techniques.
She has premiered works by Yannis Kyriakides (including ‘a conSPIracy cantata’ which won the Gaudeamus Prize 2000, and was released on Unsounds 01), Calliope Tsoupaki, Martijn Padding, David Dramm, and Marko Ciciliani.
She has performed in international music festivals such as The Gaudeamus Music Week, The Grachten Festival, Aldeburgh Festival, Altermedium Moscow, Warsaw Autumn and Ultima Oslo.
Last year she sang in ZT Hollandia’s new music-theatre production – ‘Spinoza or I am not where I think myself to be’ - directed by Paul Koek with music by Yannis Kyriakides.
Her performances have been broadcasted by radio stations all over Europe (such as Dutch VPRO and Concertzender, BBC Word Service and BBC Radio 3) and the US.
